Filia has been a hairdresser for over three decades and used to own a hair salon in Athens. The salon is owned by Filia Papapanagiotou, whose family is from Gavalochori, but who has lived with her family in Athens for most of her life.
Filia has been a hairdresser for over three decades and owned a hair salon in Athens. She and her husband Achileas Davrados decided to move to Crete permanently in 2022 because they wanted a better quality of life. Filia and Achileas became passionate about two Greek companies that sell organic hair-care products—Exesio and Alexander Hair. They felt that the products of both of these companies would be well received by Cretans, so they decided to become the ambassadors for these products on the island.
To display the hair products, the couple needed a space, and the building in which the salon is now located was available for rent. In the past, it had been a barber shop, a post office, a magazine shop, and a grill house. At first, they envisioned the space simply as a place to showcase hair products, but many villagers asked if they could also open a salon in the space. Filia was persuaded, and the hair salon opened in April, 2022.
Filia’s daughter, Anastasia Vlachoni, also works in the salon as a manicurist and acrylic manicurist. She speaks fluent Greek and English and is now studying German.
Filia and Achileas are passionate about helping their community and bringing more work for people in the area. That’s why they were delighted when the staff of a hair salon in Rethymno came to Gavalochori for a demonstration of their hair-care products and then went to eat at the Arismari Taverna.
The salon’s services include haircuts, hair styling, coloring, highlights, and hair treatments.
The salon is open for hair services Tuesday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. On Saturday, it is open between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. It is closed on Sunday and Monday. Manicures are available between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
